Handloom Cobalt Blue Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree With Double Color Border

Women with impeccable taste in fashion and an eye for designer handlooms that make them stand out from the crowd frequently invest in heirloom-worthy handlooms such as this cobalt blue masterpiece. The vibrant, contrasting colours of the body and the border, the intricate detailing made using real gold zari, and the authenticity of the pure silk threads used in its making make this saree worth every penny. The expert craftsmen of Kanchipuram weave each thread of this work of art by hand using the centuries-old Korvai weaving technique.

Korvai in Tamil translates to ‘sync’ which generally applies to the structured patterns used in music, dance, as well as textiles. This weaving technique connects the concepts of colour and contrast among the borders and the body. To create a masterpiece like this, two skilled weavers sit at the weft ends of a loom to throw the shuttle while weaving this iconic piece. Through this labour-intensive technique, the green and pink borders, cobalt blue body, and pink pallu are crafted separately and attached along the warp using the age-old Petni method. The intricate detailing of the gold zari only adds value to its already extraordinary aesthetic appeal.

The Weaving Technique

The three shuttle weaving technique used to create contrasts in borders and pallu is known as the Kanjivaram Korvai. Two weavers sit at both weft ends of a loom to throw the shuttle while weaving a korvai saree. A korvai saree is more expensive than a regular single color silk kanjivaram
