Intention
At the heart of WeaverStory, lies a commitment to bridge the gap between textile connoisseurs and authentic Indian hand-weaves crafted by artisans. Through focused initiatives targeted at uplifting weavers and creating awareness about the beauty and heritage of Indian handlooms, we aim to ensure economic sustainability for craftsmen while delivering excellence to discerning customers.
Our Journey
WeaverStory was established on National Handloom Day in 2015 by Mr. Nishant Malhotra, its Founder and CEO. Inspired by a poignant conversation with a weaver in Banaras, Nishant, with his extensive experience in sales, operations, and finance, set out to create a platform with a vision to preserve and promote the exquisite craft of handweaving, ensuring its legacy continues to thrive.
What began with a few sarees from a single weaver in Banaras has blossomed into an omnichannel brand, supporting over 1,300 weaving families across the country. Today WeaverStory delivers exceptional, authentic textiles to discerning customers worldwide. Through strategic intervention, innovative design, and an unparalleled network of artisans, WeaverStory has become a trusted name in luxury handlooms, serving both the artisan and the connoisseur.
WeaverStory: Behind the name
The brand’s name draws inspiration from the humble narratives of weavers, hidden in the folds of their magnificent weaves. The inspiration they find in their mundane surroundings, the colours they carefully chose, their love affair with the laborious art, and the proud lineage they carry forward—all coming together, rendering a tale on a bed of plush fabric for someone else to discover, cherish and create stories of their own.
Craft Revival
A key aspect of WeaverStory’s commitment to spotlighting Indian weaves is craft revival. We have collaborated with master craftsmen to recreate heritage weaves from museums and archives like Gethua, Double Weave Brocade, and Dampaj. We are also working on reviving intricate techniques like Baluchari, Shikargah, Jamdani, and the exquisite designs created on drawlooms from the courts of Mughal India and Iran, which have been extinct since the 19th century.
Our most recent intervention in this sphere has been rejuvenating the ailing handloom cluster of Venkatgiri in Andhra Pradesh in collaboration with TATA Trusts’ Antaran programme.
