Green Handloom Pure Katan Silk Banarasi Dupatta With Kadhwa Jaal

The flawless pure Katan Silk Dupatta with lush green undertones of Banarasi heritage and curated by Weaver Story is drop-dead gorgeous and seems like it costs at least a million bucks! What serves to the astonishing authenticity of this dupatta is the pure Katan silk fabric, which is obtained by twisting two or more threads of katan Silk filaments together, strengthening the material and making it extremely breathable. Created by the talented artisans situated in the religious city of Banaras, this Banarasi Katan Silk dupatta is a tribute to our culturally rich country and the archeological Mughal architecture.

The dark green hues of the textile dance perfectly well with the golden zari border around the edges, as well as the floral motifs of brocade interlaced in the middle. The leafy clusters of vine hand woven on the fabric amplify the minimalistic look, adding to the refined sense of traditional fashion. Embedded with an intricate Kadhwa Jaal pattern, the aromatic motifs of shimmery red and yellow flora are crafted one by one with patience and detailing, rather than altogether. This comprehensive technique is drastically superior from the machine-based handloom technology used globally to produce clothing in bulk.

The Weaving Technique

Kadhwa stands for 'kadha hua' or 'embroidered'. In Kadhwa weaving, each motif is woven separately as opposed to other Banarasi techniques. Often two weavers weave a kadhwa saree. One weaver is engaged in weaving the cloth or the body of the saree and the second helps in carving out or embroidering each motif using a wooden spool or Tilli as it’s called in Banaras. Using this technique, many different motifs of different sizes, colours and textures can be woven on the same sari, which is quite difficult to do otherwise. A kadhwa saree typically will take a minimum of 12-14 days to complete and go up to 8-9 months also depending on the intricacy of the design. The backside of a kadhwa saree is clean and has almost negligible or zero float or loose threads.
