Details

Deep maroon and considered ornamentation define Ragini, from The Heirloom Vault. Handwoven in pure silk organza, the saree is kept entirely plain through the body, allowing the richness of the colour and the intricately embroidered border to take precedence.

The handwoven organza brings a natural lightness and translucence to the saree. Maroon appears deeper where the fabric gathers through the pleats and softer across the pallu, giving an otherwise uninterrupted field of colour subtle dimension and movement.

Framing the saree is a zardozi and resham embroidered border, composed as a continuous series of floral medallions. Metallic zardozi defines the flowers and ornamental details, while resham embroidery brings additional texture to the composition. Smaller foliate elements surround each medallion, creating an elaborate border without extending ornamentation onto the body of the saree.

The embroidery is executed using a manually operated machine, with the artisan guiding the work throughout the process. Combined with the handwoven organza, it gives Ragini its distinctly handcrafted character.

While several pieces within The Heirloom Vault give preserved vintage borders a new context, Ragini looks towards the heirlooms being created today. It brings together handwoven textile and contemporary craftsmanship in a saree designed to be worn now, treasured over time and eventually passed forward.

Single piece. No repeats.

Styling Note

Pair Ragini with a gold tissue or brocade blouse, as styled, to draw out the metallic character of the zardozi embroidery. For a more understated interpretation, choose a tonal maroon blouse with a clean neckline. Finish with kundan or polki jhumkas for wedding celebrations and festive evenings.
