The word Kalamkari is derived from a Persian word where ‘kalam‘ means pen and ‘kari‘ referring to the craftsmanship. Motifs drawn in Kalamkari spans from flowers, peacock, paisleys to mythological characters. The art of Kalamkari is primarily done to create textiles like sarees, Dupattas and also a few modern interventions on Kanjivaram and Patola sarees.
