The ingenious Banarasi artisans have handcrafted this piece of attire using the time-honored cutwork weaving technique that requires care, precision and detailing. The mulberry purple Banarasi kalidar lehenga features panels adorning an exquisite display of intricately crafted gold zari threads and impressive Meenakari work.

The gold zari floral vines lavishly decorated throughout the lehenga add a touch of splendor to the silhouette. The red Meenakari work woven amidst the beautiful gold floral vines brings out its elegance like never before! The border of the Katan Banarasi lehenga is a traditional Indian pattern, making it a classic addition to your wardrobe.

This lehenga has 18 kali with length 1.08 m and can fit up to 91.4 cm waist. The panels which are sufficient for around 5.58 m ghera or circumference at the bottom.

The Weaving Technique

Phekwa is a weaving style from banaras, where the weft yarn is interlaced in the warp from one end to the other creating textures on the surface of the cloth also called the zamin. This can be done with single silk yarn or resham or zari, or both can be wound around shuttles.
This is one of the most widely used banarasi handloom weaving techniques where the motifs are woven together as opposed to kadhwa saress, thus taking lesser time in completing a saree. This weaving style leaves a large proportion of the silk or zari thread at the back of the saree where there is no motif at the front. These threads at the back are then cut, once the saree is complete. Mostly the ladies of the house help in cutting and cleaning this extra float
