Soft cream Chanderi, warmed by a pale yellow undertone, lends a quiet radiance to this handloom saree from WeaverStory. Hand-painted Madhubani fish and birds enrich its borders and pallu, their colours beautifully defined against the luminous fabric. Coral red, orange, blue and green give the artwork warmth, while the gentle cream ground keeps the drape elegant and composed.

The broad border unfolds through rounded panels of fish and lotus motifs, creating an intricate line across the shoulder and around the hem. Fine black outlines, delicate patterns and carefully placed colour reveal the precision of the bamboo pen. The balance of richly painted edges and open fabric allows both the Chanderi and the artwork to shine.

On the pallu, colourful birds surround an elaborate semicircular arrangement of fish, lotus and floral motifs. Layer upon layer of painting gives this section the presence of a complete artwork. As the saree falls into folds, its detailed composition reveals itself gradually, bringing depth and movement to the drape.

Fish and birds unite the worlds of water and sky in a poetic celebration of life. Repeated lotus forms connect the border and pallu, giving the painting a sense of harmony and continuity. This quiet narrative of nature adds meaning to the saree’s beauty.

The saree is woven on a handloom, then painted with a bamboo pen by women from a self-help group led by a National Award-winning artisan in Madhubani district, Bihar. Within this cottage industry, the women practise their craft alongside household and family responsibilities, bringing skill and individual care to each piece.

Approximately 110 hours of handloom weaving and hand painting, spread over 22–25 days, go into every saree. The result is an art piece to wear and cherish, distinguished by its delicate colour and intricate workmanship.
