Handloom Mint Green Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree With Korvai Rani Pink Shikargah Border

Kanchipuram is a small city in Tamil Nadu that is known for its thousands of temples and a centuries-old weaving technique called Korvai. In Tamil, Korvai translates to "sync," which in the world of textiles refers to the colours and contrasts of a Kanjivaram saree. This mint-green handloom is an iconic Kanjivaram work of art made using this age-old weaving technique.

The subtle, mint-green body of this saree is made of pure silk and richly adorned with a blend of Poo Chakram (floral) and Mayil (peacock) motifs made out of delicate, authentic gold zari threads. The rani pink Shikargah border and pallu are both decorated with eye-catching traditional motifs like Kuthirai (horse), Iruthalaipakshi (two-headed eagle), Patra Pushpam (flora and fauna), as well as geometric patterns you can’t take your eyes off. Both the body and border, along with the pallu, are crafted separately and are then attached using the petni method to create an enticing work of art like this. You can add statement temple jewellery to its elegance and watch yourself become the talk of the town for your choice of designer handlooms.

The Weaving Technique

The three shuttle weaving technique used to create contrasts in borders and pallu is known as the Kanjivaram Korvai. Two weavers sit at both weft ends of a loom to throw the shuttle while weaving a korvai saree. A korvai saree is more expensive than a regular single color silk kanjivaram
