Details

A melody captured in colour, this light pink handloom Chanderi saree from WeaverStory brings the charm of Lord Krishna’s flute to Madhubani art. The softly luminous pink body opens into a richly painted pallu, where repeated images of Krishna recall the music that mesmerized village hearts. Deep blue, red and yellow give the painting a vivid presence against the delicate pink.

Paired birds grace the broad border, their sweeping feathers drawn with the fine precision of a bamboo pen. They frame the drape beautifully across the shoulder and around the hem, while small painted flowers lend a quiet rhythm to the body. The balance of intricate painting and open fabric gives the saree its elegance, allowing the artwork to unfold with every turn.

At its heart is a story of divine love and devotion. Krishna’s flute and the birds surrounding him evoke the harmony of a world held by his music. The narrative brings meaning to the saree’s beauty, making it a thoughtful choice for celebrations where art and tradition find a place.

Woven on a handloom and then painted by women artisans, each saree carries the touch of its makers. The women belong to a self-help group led by a National Award-winning artisan, working within a cottage industry in Madhubani district, Bihar. Alongside household and family responsibilities, they keep this tradition of storytelling alive through their bamboo pens.

Approximately 110 hours of handloom weaving and hand painting, spread over 22–25 days, go into each piece. The result is a saree worthy of being cherished as art—soft in colour, rich in craft and deeply rooted in its story.

Wear it with a plain navy blue or pink blouse and understated gold jewellery for pujas, festive gatherings and family celebrations.
