Details

Woven in a luminous light turquoise blue, this pure Katan silk dupatta showcases the intricacy and richness of traditional Banarasi craftsmanship. Its smooth silk surface and graceful fall lend the piece an elegant presence suited to weddings and significant festive occasions.

The body features an elaborate Jangla pattern of trailing vines and small roses woven in zari. Delicate meenakari accents introduce subtle colour within the floral composition, lending depth and definition to the intricate pattern. The ornate palla is woven with fine geometric zari patterns and framed by floral borders, creating a rich counterpoint to the flowing Jangla design.

Handcrafted knotted tassels in coordinating turquoise and metallic tones complete the dupatta, adding texture and movement to its ceremonial character.

Styling Note: Pair it with an ivory or pale-gold kurta set to highlight the turquoise base, or style it with deeper teal and jewel-toned separates for a layered festive look.

The Weaving Technique

Phekwa is a weaving style from banaras, where the weft yarn is interlaced in the warp from one end to the other creating textures on the surface of the cloth also called the zamin. This can be done with single silk yarn or resham or zari, or both can be wound around shuttles.
This is one of the most widely used banarasi handloom weaving techniques where the motifs are woven together as opposed to kadhwa saress, thus taking lesser time in completing a saree. This weaving style leaves a large proportion of the silk or zari thread at the back of the saree where there is no motif at the front. These threads at the back are then cut, once the saree is complete. Mostly the ladies of the house help in cutting and cleaning this extra float
