Padmika — Gold Tissue Organza Saree with Vintage Katan Silk Banarasi Meenakari Border

Gold takes on a softer, more nuanced character in Padmika, a new addition to The Heirloom Vault. Crafted in luminous Tissue Organza, the saree is framed by a vintage Katan silk Banarasi border—bringing together the lightness of the body with the depth and intricacy of an older handwoven textile.

The gold Tissue Organza forms an uninterrupted body, its fine metallic surface catching and diffusing light as the saree moves. Rather than appearing overtly ornate, the restrained body allows the natural lustre and texture of the fabric to create dimension through the drape.

The defining element is its vintage Katan silk Banarasi border, handwoven in Banaras. Set against a pale gold ground, the border carries an elaborate progression of floral vines and paisley forms worked in zari. Delicate meenakari accents in warm red and orange appear selectively within the motifs, bringing subtle colour to the metallic composition.

The contrast in texture is particularly distinctive—the diaphanous Tissue Organza meeting the more structured Katan silk of the border. Fine ornamental bands frame the larger motifs, giving the vintage weave definition while allowing its original character to remain intact.
