Details

Some textiles command attention through ornament; others through the restraint that surrounds it. Rukmini, from The Heirloom Vault, pairs deep maroon pure silk organza with a vintage handwoven Banarasi zari border, allowing the workmanship of the original weave to take centre stage.

The body is intentionally left plain. The sheer pure silk organza gives the maroon depth while retaining its characteristic lightness and transparency. Against this unembellished expanse, the intricacy of the vintage border becomes particularly striking.

Handwoven in Banaras, the border carries a continuous arrangement of floral forms in zari, framed by fine geometric detailing and a delicate leaf-like edging. Its softened metallic finish carries the character of a textile preserved over time rather than the uniform brilliance of a newly woven border.

The pallu opens into a broader expanse of zari, creating a more ceremonial finish while maintaining the saree's restraint. There is no additional embroidery across the body; instead, the composition relies on the contrast between plain organza and the richness of the vintage Banarasi weave.

Within The Heirloom Vault, Rukmini reflects the collection's central idea: exceptional workmanship from another time need not remain preserved only as an artefact. By restoring a vintage border and bringing it into a newly composed saree, its craftsmanship returns to the wardrobe—to be worn now, treasured, and eventually passed forward.

Single piece. No repeats.

Styling Note

Pair Rukmini with the coordinating maroon organza silk blouse finished with the same Banarasi border for a tonal composition. Alternatively, an antique-gold tissue blouse will bring greater emphasis to the zari. Finish with polki, kundan or heritage gold earrings, keeping the jewellery considered so the vintage border remains the focus.
