Sky Blue Handloom Chanderi Saree with Madhubani Birds and Lotus – Pre Order

Serene sky blue and intricate Madhubani painting give this handloom Chanderi saree from WeaverStory its distinctive beauty. The softly luminous body opens into an elaborate circular pallu, where birds and lotus motifs create a rich interplay of colour and fine black linework. The painting has the presence of a complete artwork, beautifully balanced by the quiet blue drape.

The pallu unfolds through repeated circles and finely painted frames, its composition recalling a mandala. Red lotus forms and blue birds lend rhythm to the artwork, with touches of orange and green enriching the pale background. Closely drawn bamboo-pen strokes fill the motifs with detail, inviting appreciation both from afar and up close.

Round painted motifs repeat along the broad border, carrying the pallu’s artistry across the shoulder and around the hem. A crisp black-and-white edge gives the saree definition, while small birds scattered across the body preserve its lightness. Each fold reveals another part of the painting, bringing movement to its carefully balanced design.

Birds and lotus flowers give the composition a gentle connection to nature. Their repetition suggests harmony and continuity, lending a poetic quality to the saree without diminishing the precision of its craft.

Woven on a handloom, the saree is then painted with a bamboo pen by women from a self-help group led by a National Award-winning artisan in Madhubani district, Bihar. Working within this cottage industry alongside household and family responsibilities, they bring skill and individual artistry to every piece.

Approximately 110 hours of handloom weaving and hand painting, spread over 22–25 days, go into each saree. The result is an art piece to wear and cherish, distinguished by its serene colour and intricate workmanship.
